  • Ron Brady, Stephen Cruickshank, Ernest Dillon, David Harland, Avril Johnstone, Mathew Lawrence and Richard Pumphrey - just some of the names giving clinics at Dark Deer Croft in 2013.
  • Continuing with the popular Dressage League every fortnight with Stephen Cruickshank.
  • Manuela Flückiger will be holding regular classical riding lessons.  See the feature on Manuella
  • We would like to start tests for "Paras" this year - all interested, please get in touch
  • We have more horses and ponies plus some great foals.
  • We run regular Clinics on Saddle Fitting from the SemiFlex Scotland team of Graham Evans, Master Saddler and Lorna Anderson, Dressage Rider from Hogholm Farm

  • A number of intensive courses to be run this year.  The second of these is on 19th July with Ernest Dillon.

Dark Deer is a new enterprise based in the Scottish Highlands close to Glen Afric, one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland.

Our aim is to produce calm and contented award winning horses and ponies on which we provide private lessons and sell on to good homes.  For the rider, we offer excellent tuition at very competitive prices from qualified instructors; indoor and outdoor arenas and jumping courses; all done in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in beautiful country side well away from main roads.

Welcome arena

This is the first major revision since we opened over three years ago and a lot has happened. We have grown considerably and now have a lot of new facilities including our pride and joy, an indoor arena.  You can now ride all year round and the viewing area with comfortable chairs and tables makes it a nice place to be.

We are running a lot of competitions, clinics and events - being a livery at Dark Deer means you don't need to travel very often; it's all on your door-step

Kate Ellistone is now a full-time secretary and has already made a great difference

Success for our Staff and Horses last Year

Marijke

Marijke won a total of 4 firsts at the Mondole Ferrari Dressage League and came 2nd overall as she missed two sessions.

Eileen and Lexie had a really great season with many firsts and seconds.  Well deserved after a number of injuries in previous years

Laura got a first and third on Soda Pop at Burghie in 1m and 1m10

Baseline was second on his first time out for a one-day event

This season has been a difficult start with the summer being so late and our horses and ponies just losing their winter coats but they are beginning to look better now and we hope to have a good turn-out for the Black Isle show and for Blair.

Kim showed Robbie Davidson's Highland Stallion at the Royal Highland and he was placed 6th; Karen Armour won 1st place in the Connemara Gelding class with her lovely pony, Derry

A Slow but Good Start to this Season Going Home

Dark Deer Riding Club saddle club

We have started the Dark Deer Riding Club and plan to organise a number of events this year.  This club is for adults but the youngsters have their own "Saddle Club" which meets every two weeks and which has proved a great success.  The youngsters learn about horses and their welfare as well as having a great time, while their parents get 3 hours of peace on a Sunday morning!

Famous Names hold Clinics at Dark Deer William Fox-Pitt

Dressage: Stephen Cruikshank is running events regularly and has fortnightly dressage training and competitions

Eventing: William Fox-Pitt ran a 32 person clinic in January which was a great success.  Many thanks to him.

Showing: Matthew Lawrence is here again in April and as usual his clinic is already full with a waiting list

Show Jumping: Ernest Dillon has proved a very popular teacher and is now going to run a series of 3 day intensive courses starting this March

Competitions Donny

We plan to take a number of horses and ponies to the Royal Highland Show for both "in-hand" and "ridden" classes and hope we can repeat the success we had last year when Mr Donny MacRae won the Working Highland championship with Jess of Achindrean who he bred and we produced

We will also hope to be competing at Blair Horse Trials this year together with a number of local shows and competitions.  We hope our liveries and riders will join us and we can always help with transport where needed

Livery Going Home

We have space for further DIY and Grass Liveries with wonderful facilities including modern stables, well fenced paddocks, indoor and outdoor arenas and a great line-up of clinics and competitions throughout the year

Para Liveries are particularly welcome.
